Experts on Human Trafficking To Present at Annual Training Conference

Crime Stoppers International
Announces Experts on Human Trafficking
To Present at Annual Training Conference

The 29th Annual Crime Stoppers International Training Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, August 6 – 9, 2008 will feature an extraordinary panel of experts focusing on the topic of Human Trafficking.  The panel will include representatives from the United Nations, whose GIFT program (global initiative to fight human trafficking) is a major component of the Crime Stoppers/United Nations partnership.

The United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking was conceived to join forces and coordinate the global fight on human trafficking. To date over 110 countries have signed the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children.

Trafficking invariably involves forcible movement of a person from one place to another and forcible utilization of their services with the intention of inducting them into trade for commercial gains. When we say ‘forcible’, it signifies that the action is against the person’s will or that consensus has been obtained by making deceptive claims and false allurements.

As an NGO United Nations partner, Crime Stoppers International is leading the way as a channel of anonymous information about these crimes.  The Netherlands Crime Stoppers, “M”, has already conducted a highly successful anti-human trafficking campaign that was awarded special recognition by the United Nations.

Other guest panelists will give perspectives from Interpol, the U.S. Marshall’s Service and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  Together, conference delegates will receive an inside view of the affects of human trafficking and how local crime stopper programs can have a positive impact on this global issue.

The Crime Stoppers International Training conference is the premier Crime Stoppers event, bringing together the global Crime Stoppers community, August 6 – 9, 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa.
